Brno – The Brno Fait Gallery will conclude its activities at the current location, in the hall of the former Vaňkovka factory, with a selected exhibition from its collection. The exhibition mainly consists of figurative paintings, objects, sculptures, and installations by various authors, as well as works centered on the themes of the body or corporeality. The exhibition will run until May 2, as reported by ČTK on behalf of Fait Gallery, Alžběta Kvitová. The hall will have a new tenant starting this summer.
Visitors will find, for example, an installation by the Rafani group titled Deep in Hostile Territory. It consists of dozens of figurines of athletes or warriors. Also represented are Eva Koťátková and the Polish-German artist Alicja Kwade with an installation made of several porcelain figurines and a pile of soot.
In the past, Fait Gallery regularly organized extensive retrospective exhibitions of contemporary Czech artists. The last two exhibitions are selected, with the first showcasing rather abstract and geometric works, while the second presents figurative art.
"Given the extensive collection, which contains over 1000 items, and considering the wide range of artistic approaches and the temporal span of the collection, covering a horizon from pre-war avant-garde to contemporary art, it was wise to resort to organizing two successive exhibitions," wrote curator Ondřej Kotrč earlier.
Fait Gallery and its collection were founded by entrepreneur Igor Fait. He is now also focusing on sports and is the owner of the second-division football club Artis Brno, formerly SK Líšeň. Fait Gallery plans to continue its activities for now in Prague, and possibly one day in Brno, in its own architecturally interesting spaces.
The hall belongs to the city through the company Brněnské komunikace; the lease agreement with Fait Gallery ends in June, and there was no interest in extension. The protected hall was once part of the Friedrich Wannieck machine shop. After reconstruction in 2006, it mainly served as an exhibition hall, initially named Wannieck Gallery, then Richard Adam Gallery, and lastly, since 2016, Fait Gallery.
The new tenant will be co-organizer of the Ball as Brno, Bedřich Snášel. He wishes to return the word Wannieck to the name and expand the use of the hall. "We know very well the advantages and disadvantages of this space, its possibilities, and limitations. I believe this gives us certain know-how, allowing us to bring a very diverse program and activities to the hall," Snášel stated recently in a press release.
