Prague - The Engineering Chamber Award for last year was awarded to the road galleries on the city ring road in Brno along the Žabovřeská section, the Schwarzenberg railway bridge in Červená nad Vltavou, the reconstruction of the baroque castle in Týnec, and the multifunctional building in Pařížská street in Prague. The competition has been organized for the 21st year by the Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Technicians in Construction (ČKAIT), whose representatives announced the winners today in Prague. A total of 66 proposals were submitted by civil engineers for this year's Engineering Chamber Award.

The special prize from the engineers was awarded for the reconstruction of the Sun Baths in Luhačovice. Six other buildings received honorable mention from the chamber, including the renewal of the Nature House of Brdy, the revitalization of the Barbora Works in Jincích, the Dobroslava water reservoir, a bridge in Blansko, the southern tangent in České Budějovice, and the cycle path and footbridge over the Bečva River. The public awarded the Viničné Terraces in Plzeň.

"Interestingly, but also logically for most of the submitted buildings, is that a relatively short permitting process goes hand in hand with quality project preparation. This is a clear signal for builders that quality in the preparation of construction usually results in faster permits, which also brings quicker utilization of investment, ultimately leading to financial profit," stated Robert Špalek, president of ČKAIT.

According to the chamber, the road galleries in Brno facilitate automotive and rail traffic and are also a significant natural feature opening this area to sports and recreation in green spaces. The crucial construction also addresses long-standing traffic jams, and according to ČKAIT, it demonstrates how engineering has advanced in recent years. It can also remind one of bridge galleries known from the Alps, for example.

The Schwarzenberg railway bridge in Červená nad Vltavou is considered by the chamber to be an engineering work realized under challenging terrain conditions, successfully combining modern technology with precise construction management. The Týnec Castle has transformed from a ruin into a representative form after 25 years. Built in the high baroque style, it has become a sought-after cultural and gallery space. The engineers awarded the castle for its sensitive design in reconstruction aimed at restoring the national cultural monument.

The multifunctional building at Pařížská 25 was transformed by an extensive and comprehensive reconstruction utilizing advanced technologies and intelligent systems. The building was originally constructed in the 1970s and served as the former Tuzex headquarters. After years of underutilization, with the entry of a new owner, the building now includes 18 apartments and commercial spaces.

The Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Technicians in Construction is a public professional organization. It brings together more than 32,000 authorized engineers and technicians. It was established in 1992 and follows the professional organization that was founded in 1913 under the name of the Union of Czech Officially Authorized Civil Engineers in the Kingdom of Bohemia.
