At the end of the year 2016, the completely reconstructed Cultural House in Měřín was ceremonially opened. The former gymnasium building, whose history dates back to 1934, had faced complete closure in recent years due to its dilapidated condition. However, in recent days, the venue has begun to serve the local residents well and their cultural activities. This is also thanks to the acoustic ceilings from ROCKFON.

Optimal Solution

Together with the contracting company PKS a.s. and Atelier WIK, s.r.o., we carried out a complete repair and reconstruction of the building, restoring both the historical façade and its interior. The entire current complex includes the original building as well as a new office section; the kitchen and storage areas were also completely reconstructed.
Together, we selected the optimal acoustic solution. During the trial installation, ROCKFON actively participated in selecting the most suitable ceiling systems for the individual spaces to meet the requirements for acoustics, safety, and hygiene.
"The Cultural House is a place where neighbors meet and get to know each other, culturally educate themselves, and simply have a good time," says the deputy mayor of the town of Měřín, Ing. Jaroslav Pazdera, adding: "For this to happen, it is necessary for the ceiling to look good aesthetically and have certain acoustic properties."

Acoustics, Durability, and Aesthetics

"The investor required acoustic solutions for the ceiling panels that are elegant and fit the overall character of the building. Ultimately, the snow-white monolithic system ROCKFON Mono Acoustic was chosen, which fully met both the investor's expectations and our intent," says ROCKFON representative Igor Slávik.
The Mono panels offer considerable design freedom and find application in both new buildings and those requiring renovation. Monolithic ceiling panels provide the possibility to design ceilings without visible and disruptive joints, and a continuous and elegant surface can play a key role in expressing the identity of the designed space.
The sound absorption of ROCKFON Mono Acoustic is up to aw = 1.00, thus rating Class A. The panels are made of high-density stone mineral wool, with a white non-woven fabric covering the visible side, while the back has a protective membrane against discoloration due to aging. The edges of the facing surface are beveled, allowing the joints to be filled with a putty.

Monolithic Ceiling Execution

The ROCKFON Mono monolithic ceiling is installed similarly to a drywall ceiling. Ceiling panels are attached to the suspended structure, joints are sealed with a spatula, and then sanded. Finally, a spray coat of plaster is applied to create a smooth, uniform surface, similar to that made of drywall. However, it differs technically as it has excellent acoustic, fire-resistant properties and moisture resistance. In addition, it allows for the aesthetic integration of HVAC or lighting systems. It provides broad arranging possibilities, which users of the spaces will especially appreciate.

In Conclusion

The overall reconstruction of the Měřín Cultural House greatly benefits the development of the town and its residents. The timeless architecture of the original building has allowed for the use of the building even after more than 80 years without significant changes to its layout. All the materials used continue to respect this timelessness. We believe this is the right path.
