The relocated Czech modular pavilion EXPO 2015 back to Vizovice, designed by the architectural office Chybik+Kristof AA with an adjusted interior by the studio Olgoj Chorchoj, succeeded in the Meeting Room of the Year competition.
The competition is announced and organized by CBRE, a global leader in commercial real estate services. The expert jury was chaired by the world-renowned architect Eva Jiřičná. This year's (the jubilees fifth) edition was record-breaking in the number of submitted projects and over the entire 5 years, the jury has already selected from more than four hundred projects. We are especially pleased that our EXPO pavilion, which we transformed into the headquarters of KOMA MODULAR, was awarded in the category of Most Attractive Work Environment. The architectural purity of the interior alone would not have sufficed to receive this award. A significant contribution undoubtedly comes from the artworks by Lukáš Rittstein and Bára Šlapetová. Office spaces surrounded by art, which none of the other submitted projects could boast. It probably won't surprise anyone that most projects involved in the competition came from Prague, with a few projects from Brno, Ostrava, one from Zlín, and one from Chrásťan. However, the award for the company KOMA MODULAR was the only one among nine categories that went outside the territory of the capital city. We are very pleased that this competition has also shown that modular construction is not just about cheap houses or construction units, as some competitors try to demonstrate, but a meaningful alternative for acquiring structures that can serve various purposes, and furthermore reflect the principles of circular economy.
At a time when modular apartment buildings, student dormitories, or homes for seniors are being adopted in state housing support plans in developed countries, we can hope that our government representatives will also understand the advantages of this method of acquiring facilities without prejudice, as it has been successful in addressing the shortage of places through modular kindergartens.
