Autodesk, a global leader in 2D and 3D design software for manufacturing, construction, media, and entertainment, announced the acquisition of Robobat, a leading company in providing advanced analytical and CAD solutions for the civil engineering community. The acquisition was completed for $42.5 million in cash after deducting net working capital. The private company, based in Grenoble, France, is a provider of software solutions for structural analysis and the design of steel and concrete structures. With this acquisition, Autodesk enhances its existing range of construction software, enabling it to offer the construction industry a more comprehensive set of integrated solutions.
The acquisition of Robobat aligns with the vision for the development of BIM (Building Information Modeling) methods and will allow Autodesk to develop analytical and design solutions that help achieve even better results when working with BIM—from design through to construction. Autodesk continues to plan to support existing Robobat products while also developing entirely new construction solutions that combine the technologies of both companies. “We welcome Robobat customers, partners, and employees to the Autodesk community,” said Jay Bhatt, Autodesk Senior Vice President for AEC solutions. “We are particularly excited about integrating Robobat technology with Revit Structure, which will further expand the BIM modeling capabilities used by engineers, designers, and architects worldwide.” “It is an honor for Robobat to join forces with Autodesk and offer its software to new customers around the world,” added Andre Niznik, CEO of Robobat. “We also warmly welcome the integration of Robobat and Autodesk technologies, which enables us to create entirely new solutions for our customers in the construction sector.” Autodesk and Robobat currently provide software to a number of global engineering firms, including Arup, Buro Happold, Thornton-Tomasetti, WSP Cantor Seinuk, and Walter P. Moore. Autodesk's structural software has previously been used in several significant projects, such as the Freedom Tower, Stade de France stadium, South Rail Station in Shanghai, the Athens Olympic Stadium, the Millau Viaduct, and the hangar for Airbus A380 aircraft.
