Lecture
Per Monsen: Superuse — Architecture and the environment
Norwegian projects
FA ČVUT, Thákurova 7, Praha 6-Dejvice, lecture hall D1122 Monday, December 6, 2010, at 6:00 PM.
The lecture is part of the lecture series Ecology vs. Architecture organized by the Faculty of Architecture of CTU.
Architect Per Monsen represents a rational and factual approach to architecture, as is common in Scandinavia. His programmatic approach, based on a technical relationship with construction, fully meets the idea of an architect who handles design on many parallel planes, resulting in a sober but well-functioning building. As early as the 1980s, he was a pioneer of an ecological approach to building and participated in a number of experimental projects in Norway and internationally, including projects by the International Energy Agency (IEA) focused on the use of solar energy. These projects included his participation in the work of Task XXIII, focused on researching the construction process aimed at the efficient use of solar energy in residential construction. Surprisingly, the Norwegian government has been actively supporting research on solar energy utilization, including photovoltaics, since the time when large oil reserves were discovered in the North Sea. This foresighted accumulation of knowledge in the field of alternative energy resources has led to Norway's leading position in both hydropower and photovoltaics.
