Přerov – The new seat of the Přerov city hall, costing more than 400 million crowns, has been completed, and the contractor has handed over the reconstructed building to the city. However, work will continue in it over the coming weeks, and the officials will start moving in from May 21 to June 14. The office must be operational according to the grant conditions by the end of this year, spokesperson for the city hall Lenka Chalupová said today to ČTK. This was the largest reconstruction in the modern history of Přerov.

The construction was led by the Prague company VCES, which won the contract in a tender. The price increased by more than 66 million crowns compared to the original estimates. "The price of the construction increased due to the additional work carried out, as it is a reconstruction of an existing building; the original documentation was very general and also inaccurate, the load-bearing structure of the building is a non-prefabricated reinforced concrete skeleton, so it was not possible to predict the condition of the structure accurately without exposing it," the city spokesperson stated.

During the construction, ten amendments to the original contract were made, causing the total price to rise to 426.3 million crowns. The reconstruction lasted approximately 28 months. "The building has been handed over, and the removal of defects and incomplete work will take place until the end of April, and also the occupancy permit will be obtained. The object should be equipped with free-standing furniture by the same deadline, that is, by the end of April. After that, the building should be handed over to the property manager," Chalupová added.

From the second half of May, officials will begin moving into the new office, and the relocation is planned to take three weeks. "The most challenging will be moving the responsibilities that require both electronic and paper records, which the city hall performs on behalf of the state within its delegated authority for the entire district, that is, for the 80,000 inhabitants. These are also activities that citizens regularly use. During the reconstruction, these matters were placed in the Great Passage," the city hall spokesperson further added.

In June, the Department of Economics, including local fee responsibilities, and the entire city hall management will also move into the new building. "Although we will try to expedite the relocation as much as possible, we must temporarily suspend the processing of documents for nearly three weeks. We will inform citizens about the exact dates of the closure repeatedly," the spokesperson concluded.

The reconstruction of the administrative building from the late 1960s, which had been criticized for its current appearance, was carried out according to the design by Anagram&Gruppa. The building will also feature a café with a view of the city, and the design is dominated by a staircase leading along the transparent façade. The city bought the building in 2020 for 38 million crowns with the aim of creating a new seat for the city hall, where approximately 160 officials are expected to move. The city received a grant of 167 million crowns from the State Investment Support Fund for the reconstruction of the building.
