KAREL DOLEŽEL - Contemporary Austrian Architecture May 18th at 18:00, Fiducia Club, Mlýnská 2, Ostrava
The lecture will be based on a selection and commentary on the best realizations that can be observed in present-day Austria, which the author has personally visited. Contemporary Austrian architecture is one of the examples of regionalism as perceived by Kenneth Frampton. In addition to the traditional centers of quality contemporary architecture - Vienna, Graz, Linz, Innsbruck, and Vorarlberg - offering topics for several lectures, buildings in small municipalities will also be presented. This illustrates that truly good and interesting architecture can be found anywhere in Austria, unlike in the Czech environment. Alongside projects from architectural stars, realizations from young architectural studios will be showcased, some of which have already been presented through exhibitions and lectures in Prague and Brno - for example, the Riepl & Riepl studio from Linz at the Brno Gallery of Architecture. Ing. arch. Karel Doležel (*1954 Olomouc) Graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of VUT in Brno in 1979, subsequently worked as a designer at the Project and Development Institute of VUT in Brno. During the 1980s, he collaborated on legendary lectures at the Brno Stavoprojekt and exhibitions of V. Karfík and B. Rozehnal (with V. Šlapeta) and the Municipal House. From 1990, he ran a studio with Ing. arch. Ludmila Kramolišová. Realizations: ÚKZÚZ in Brno 1989, administrative building Kolmek in Brno 1995, primary school Křtiny 2000, completion of a special school for students with multiple disabilities in Blansko 2000 (honorable mention Grand Prix of the Association of Architects). Since 1994, he has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture of VUT in Brno - public buildings. Since 1999, he has been active in the Institute of Theory of Architecture - founding the subject of contemporary architecture together with J. Kynčl. He regularly publishes in magazines Architekt, Stavba, Era 21, etc. He held his own exhibition of drawings in 2004 at the Gallery of Architecture in Brno. He collaborated on a guide to contemporary Brno architecture 1990 - 2005.
