February 19 at 18:00 Jan Tabor: On the Difficulties of Placing a House on a Couch: Architecture and Psychoanalysis. Lecture by a prominent architectural theorist.
Using the example of a significant building of contemporary Central European architecture - The House of Art in Graz (Spacelab studio - architects Peter Cook and Colin Fournier, 1999-2003) - the author demonstrates the difficulty of analyzing architecture through psychoanalytical methods, as he attempted together with the Austrian psychoanalyst Samy Teicher.
Jan Tabor (1944, Poděbrady). Studied at the Technical University of Vienna. Currently works at the School of Architecture at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna as a teacher focusing on architecture theory and criticism, and cultural studies. He lectures at several other professional institutions in Vienna and Bratislava. He is engaged in journalism in the field of culture and has taught in Zaha M. Hadid's studio. He works as a curator for exhibitions dealing with modern and contemporary art and architecture. He has created several projects of European significance: for example, the exhibition Kunst und Diktatur (1994), exhibitions at the Vienna Artists' House and at the Experimental Architecture Forum within the well-known museum complex - Museumsquartier Wien. He is currently preparing the exhibition Art and Liberation. Cultural Policy in Europe 1943-1967.
