On Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at 2:00 PM, a scientific colloquium on the topic of Unplanned Planned Cities will be held at the Department of Architecture, Institute of Architectural and Urban Studies, Dúbravská cesta 9 in Bratislava.
Bratislava is a city that architects have significantly shaped, especially during the twentieth century. Research on the modern urban formation of Bratislava gradually reveals that the city is much more a result of partial, fragmented, and often essentially unsuccessful efforts, rather than a reflection of a conscious intention, as comprehensive urban plans attempt to showcase. Is this a specificity of Bratislava, or can similar phenomena be observed in examples from other Central European cities?
Key speakers: Henrieta Moravčíková / Institute of Architectural and Urban Studies Bratislava / Who Planned Modern Bratislava? Selected Modern Concepts in the Structure of the City, Their Form and Origin
Karel Maier / Czech Technical University Prague / Unplanned Planned Cities - Regional Centers of Bohemia
Richard Biegel / Charles University Prague / The City as a Mirror of Discontinuity - Urban History of Prague in the 20th Century
