Jihlava – The castle with a park in Těchobuz in the Pelhřimov district will be sold by the region to the municipality for three million crowns. This was decided today by the regional council. The municipality, which has 75 permanent residents, will repay these properties until 2028, sending the money in nine installments. The castle, which is protected as a cultural monument, was last home to a social institution. It has been empty for about seven years, and the region has unsuccessfully sought a buyer for it.
Regional councilor Karel Janoušek (ODS and STO) told the council today that the region originally considered requiring payment by the end of the electoral term, which is 2024. He stated that by extending the repayment period, they wanted to accommodate the municipality so that it could use its funds for potential project financing in the castle area. "The municipality takes care of several monuments; it definitely has its own experiences," he said.
It involves the sale of buildings and about five hectares of land, whose value, according to an expert appraisal, is eight to nine million crowns, the councilor stated.
The proposal for the purchase agreement was approved by the Těchobuz municipal council last Thursday. "We thoroughly considered our financial options in the council," said Mayor Pavel Hájek (independent) to the council today. He indicated that the municipality has annual tax revenues of over one million crowns, but a significantly larger portion of the budget consists of non-tax revenues. According to him, the municipality has been successful in obtaining grants. "It is not uncommon for the municipality of Těchobuz to have a budget of 20 to 30 million a year, and we are able to manage that," he said.
According to Hájek, the municipality's priority is to keep the castle park publicly accessible. In previous years, he stated that the municipality failed to negotiate with the region for the transfer of the park itself, which is why it decided to take over the entire castle area. Hájek told ČTK that the municipality wants to relocate the memorial of mathematician, philosopher, and priest Bernard Bolzano (1781 to 1848), who stayed at the castle in Těchobuz, into the castle. In another building, the municipality plans to create apartments.
Recently, according to the region, an individual from Mladá Boleslav has expressed interest in the castle, stating that he would like to treat burned-out managers there.
Governor Vítězslav Schrek (ODS and STO) remarked that the region prioritizes the public interest of the municipality. "This property, if I'm not mistaken, was acquired by the region free of charge through a transfer from the state," he noted. For the sale of the castle to the municipality, 33 out of 40 present councilors voted in favor.
Clients of the social institution managed by the region gradually moved out of Těchobuz by 2015. Initially, the region wanted to sell the castle for at least 12 million crowns; in further rounds, the price gradually decreased to last year's 6.5 million. The region canceled the tender at that time due to measures against the spread of the coronavirus. The castle park was not included in this offer.
