Prague - Today, the Architecture Day Festival begins in dozens of cities across the Czech Republic. Until October 4, it will offer more than 300 events. Unique buildings, historical palaces, industrial sites, and the most modern award-winning constructions will open their doors to the public for a short time. The organizers promise also unconventional journeys through architecture by water, by bike, and at a trot. With a few exceptions, the program is accessible for free.
Architecture Day aims to bring closer the past, present, and future of Czech and Moravian cities. Dozens of architects, urban planners, and other experts will explore hidden urban nooks with interested visitors, surprising them with new perspectives on places that people pass by daily.
The program Hurá dovnitř! will open the representative floor of the Municipal House in Prague, and Laichter's House near Riegrovy Sady will be accessible to the public for the first time. Visitors will also be able to explore, for example, the MeetFactory building.
In Brno, one of the most significant Art Nouveau monuments, Jurkovič's Villa, will open, as well as the Arts and Crafts Palace and the multifunctional building Bratislavská. In Znojmo, the oldest factory in Central Europe will open, in Frýdek-Místek, the abandoned building of Moravia Bank, and in Most, the backstage of the City Theatre.
Among contemporary buildings, there will be the Archeopark Pavlov, which received the Czech Architecture Award. In Strančice, administrative spaces of a concrete plant will be open to view. The Koma Modular Center for modular architecture will be opened in Vizovice. Visitors will be able to tour the production plant and see the Czech Expo pavilion. The pavilion will also host an exhibition mapping Czechoslovakia's and the Czech Republic's participation in Expo exhibitions.
Part of Architecture Day is the international film festival Film and Architecture, which has expanded to 20 cities.
