Island - The city wants to build a facility in part of the former barracks in Island where people can spend their free time. Another part of the facility, which will be separated by a wall, will serve as storage space for the city. A bike path is also to be included in the facility, for which the city leadership wants to obtain a subsidy, Deputy Mayor Marek Poledníček (Ostrováci.cz) told reporters today. The costs for reviving the facility are estimated at 30 million crowns.

"A study was already prepared in 2016, based on a survey among residents who wanted a recreational activities facility there. About two-thirds of the space will remain for the city, with the storage area and facilities, and one-third towards the stream will be dedicated to recreational activities," Poledníček said.

This year, the city hall plans to have a project completed for the wall that will separate the two parts, as well as a project for the bike path leading to Hroznětínská street. These constructions are to take place next year. After dividing the facility, the city wants to start beautifying the area. According to the study, in the future there should be an inline track, a pump track, an educational trail, or even a wall for graffiti. The city leadership wants to build these in phases.
