The villa in Brno, according to Kaplický's design, will not be built

Brno - The villa designed by the world-famous architect Jan Kaplický will not be built in Babice near Brno. The preparations for the house nicknamed Slimák were interrupted by Kaplický's premature death. The final cancellation of the project was now confirmed to the Brno edition of the daily Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) by Hausi Abdul-Karim from the London studio of Amanda Levete, the late architect's former business and life partner.
    According to earlier estimates, the construction would have cost an unknown private investor between 16 and 50 million crowns. Experts believe that the unconventional villa would have enriched Czech architecture. Art historian Rostislav Švácha had even previously compared the house to the Tugendhat villa, the only Czech modern building on the UNESCO list.
    The fate of the project, according to MfD, was most likely sealed by organizational and legal chaos following Kaplický's death. The brand of the Future Systems studio, where the architect developed his projects with a team of collaborators, was inherited by his widow Eliška. Amanda Levete inherited the organizational background. According to the newspaper, the architects from Kaplický's team mostly became independent.
    Kaplický designed a new building for the National Library in the Czech capital. The so-called Octopus, however, sparked conflicting reactions, and it seems that it will not be built. In České Budějovice, they are raising money for the realization of Kaplický's concert hall project.
