Brno - The University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences (VFU) in Brno will build a new Study and Information Center within two years, which will become the heart of the school campus. The Ministry of Education recently approved a grant of about 304 million crowns. With the funds obtained, VFU will pay for construction work as well as initial equipment and technology. Future veterinarians, pharmacists, and students of related fields will thus gain modern facilities for education. This was announced to journalists today by the school's spokeswoman, Lucie Stejskalová. The Study and Information Center will primarily create facilities for the university's central library. Additionally, the university archive and storage for the school museum, which houses a number of exhibits from the history of veterinary medicine and pharmacy, will also find suitable space there. “Every functional university campus should offer students a place where study opportunities are concentrated and that provides adequate spaces for study facilities,” said the university's rector, Vladimir Večerek. Without a study center, the school campus does not meet the requirements for contemporary veterinary campuses in Europe, according to Večerek. The center's building will consist of three parallel blocks. Between them, two atriums will be created, designed by architects for student gatherings. The four-story building will house a central library, a study room with access to electronic information resources, offices, classrooms for history and languages, storage areas, and other purpose-built spaces. The project has set the completion date for the building to the last day of 2011.
