Old Town (Uherskohradišťsko) - The Recycling Ecological Center will build a factory for the production of foam glass in its area in Old Town. The investment will amount to approximately 90 million crowns and will create several dozen jobs. The factory is expected to be operational by spring next year. Foam glass is a non-flammable insulating element made from glass shards. "Processing glass is another piece in our mosaic of waste recycling. We strive to make meaningful use of all waste. Landfilling is at the very last resort. For example, 30,000 beer bottles are enough to insulate the foundation slab of a family house and to modify the surrounding terrain," said CEO Bronislav Janeček. According to company representatives, the new factory will be the second factory for the production of foam glass in the Czech Republic. It will occupy 4,200 m² and production will be divided into several buildings, including the main technology building and warehouses for input materials and finished products. The main technology is being built in the building of the former cutting shop of the original sugar factory of the May brothers, which was established in 1849. "We expect our technology to grind six tons of glass powder in one hour, which represents almost seven cubic meters of foam glass," added Janeček. The production technology consists of crushing waste glass shards into glass powder, which is subsequently mixed with chemical agents. After melting, controlled melting continues at temperatures of 800 degrees Celsius and subsequent cooling. "This is an increasingly sought-after construction element, as it is completely eco-friendly, resistant to external influences, easy to handle, and can be fully recycled again," the company stated in a press release.
