Berlin - Vandals have struck again at the Berlin memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. Someone spray-painted swastikas and anti-Semitic slogans on the concrete blocks that make up the memorial site. This was reported today by the DPA agency, citing the German police.
    Staff overseeing the publicly accessible memorial in the city center near the Brandenburg Gate found a swastika and offensive anti-Jewish inscriptions spray-painted on twelve concrete steles around noon today. Authorities have ordered the graffiti to be removed.
    The memorial, consisting of 2,711 concrete steles of varying heights, has been targeted by attackers several times since its opening in 2005. Last year, in late August, it was defaced with swastikas in several places. A carved swastika also appeared on one slab in July 2006.
    In the past, vandals have also damaged the adjacent memorial to homosexual victims of Nazism located in Tiergarten park. The last incident occurred in mid-December of last year.
