Prague - The Valdštejn Garden in the grounds of the Senate will open to visitors on Wednesday after the winter break. It will be accessible after traditional repairs and modifications on the first day of April, said Petr Kostka, spokesman for the Senate Office, to ČTK. According to him, a new feature of this season will be guided tours of the garden for the public. The tours are set to take place on the first Saturday of each month and every Tuesday afternoon, but interested parties must reserve their participation in advance at the Senate Information Center. "The tours will only be in Czech and will take place regardless of the weather," Kostka warned. The Valdštejn Garden is the second largest in central Prague. Since 1634, when it was established by the commander Albrecht of Wallenstein in the Mannerist style, it has taken on a form in the spirit of Romanticism and later Baroque. Visitors can admire a collection of nine bronze sculptures, copies of works by the Dutch sculptor Adrian de Vries, and a unique sala terrena designed for garden concerts, adorned with frescoes by the Italian painter Baccio del Bianco. People can relax in the garden near the fountains or the water reservoir, where carp, goldfish, grass carp, and even catfish swim. Also notable is the artificially created stalactite wall and an aviary with two pairs of owls. The admired inhabitants of the garden are a peacock and its mates. In addition to the fauna, flora, and historical gems of the Baroque garden, visitors can again look forward to a cultural summer from June to September. During this period, concerts will take place every Thursday in the sala terrena.
