Ústí nad Orlicí - The town hall in Ústí nad Orlicí wants to begin this year with a generous renovation of part of the city center. The area, working under the name Kociánka, bordered by the Hernych villa, the elementary art school, the former district office, the secondary health school, the police station, the gymnasium, and the cultural house, will be transformed into a well-maintained public space full of greenery with the help of European Union funding. The city will take out a loan for the revitalization, said mayor Richard Pešek.
"This space, dominated by the beautiful building of the elementary art school by architect Karel Blank, is marked by an unintentionally conceived development and loose urbanization with inadequate and poorly utilized structures, overgrown and invasive greenery," Pešek stated.
The town hall has already secured 37 million crowns from the Regional Operational Program. An additional 25 million crowns will be provided by one of the banks. The costs for merely paving the entire area are estimated at about 17 million crowns. The combination of park and square is expected to include relaxation areas with fountains and other water features, as well as a children's playground; the natural slope of the terrain under the health school will allow for the creation of a new amphitheater for 500 people.
