Ústí nad Labem - The number of associations in the Ústí Region that are trying to save monuments is growing. Dalibor Černý, the chairman of the Purkyně Foundation from Slatina near Lovosice, said this to ČTK today. The foundation is one of those that regularly contributes to voluntary associations of enthusiasts for the reconstruction of dilapidated or extinct heritage sites.
They receive more than 50 requests annually from the Ústí Region, as well as from the entire Czech Republic, of which they usually satisfy around 20. They regularly distribute more than a million crowns among them. According to Černý, they try to support longer projects, such as the renovation of St. Wenceslas Church in Výsluní in the Chomutov region, rather than individual actions. For this reason, the next round of the grant program will be announced only next year, after the sponsorship of long-term projects is completed.
One of the associations that the Purkyně Foundation has helped is the Society for the Rescue of the Church in Horní Ročov in the Louny region. Since 1998, it has raised nearly two million crowns for the church's repair, which has gone towards fixing the roof, facade, and the area around the church. Future plans include a complete reconstruction of the interior. In exchange for the repair, they have leased the church from the Catholic Church for 20 years. Karel Mareš, the secretary of the society, told ČTK today.
Cities also provide money for monuments. For example, in Ústí nad Labem, according to Deputy Mayor Jan Řeřicha, contributions are made to the church for churches. In one of the Ústí churches, for example, the organ was repaired. The city also spent approximately 100 million crowns to renovate the excursion chateau Větruše, which, however, is not a state-protected monument.
