Ostrava – Small Lauby in the city center will be residential buildings with an active ground floor. The aim of the entire project is to complete the urban block between Pivovarská, Dlouhá, and Velká streets, which has been an unsightly gap for many years. The buildings are urban-creating in their function and concept, developing the organism of the contemporary city. They are being prepared by Atelier Štěpán and Bystroň Holding in collaboration with the city.
The proposed solution respects the urban plan and maintains all key parameters of the urban study. The architecture of the facades has emerged from the study of Ostrava’s urban houses with a heavier tectonic arrangement. The architectural concept is contextual, artistic, and materially measured to the given location. Interesting visual elements include contrasting protruding windows with frames and simultaneously recessed windows within one building. The buildings will have four to six floors, and there will be underground parking on three levels. The design also includes the installation of an artwork at the corner.
In the past, the project has already gone through functional, investment, and architectural development. "I welcome that the project will become purely residential and will gain a stronger investor than the original one,” noted opposition councilor Tomáš Macura (Jdeto!!!). The city leadership, which submitted the change for approval by the councilors, is also satisfied. "I also have greater joy from the apartments,” said Mayor Jan Dohnal (ODS), adding that discussions are currently underway with the investor regarding the timelines for implementation.
