Třinec (Frýdecko-Místecko) - In Třinec, the construction of the new Werk Arena is nearing completion, which will mainly serve local hockey players. The construction, costing approximately 700 million crowns, is expected to be finished by mid-year. The operator will be the company HC Oceláři Třinec, which has already started selling season tickets for hockey matches next season, spokesperson Tomáš Želazko told ČTK. The new hall will not only host sports events but also a variety of cultural activities. The stadium will have a capacity of over 5000 spectators. Construction began in October 2012. Approximately one-third of the funding for the Werk Arena will come from a grant from the European Union. At the stadium on Lesní street, which is already reaching the end of its life, hockey players have been playing since 1967. The last farewell event for the old arena will be the traditional Metallurgist Day on Saturday, May 3. Its main star will be the Swedish rock band Europe, and alongside them, bands like Divokej Bill and Wohnout will perform. The first event in the new Werk Arena is expected to be a well-attended hockey tournament in August. Teams representing cities where steel is produced will participate, including Vítkovice from Ostrava and Košice, in addition to Třinec.
