Říčany - In Říčany near Prague, the construction of an ice rink costing 100 million crowns has been completed. Students from Říčany schools have already tried the ice in the new hall, and the facilities, including the restaurant, are open. The investor is entrepreneur and former hockey goalkeeper Martin Altrichter, who built the rink on municipal land. The grand opening, combined with a hockey exhibition, will be on December 10 or 11, Altrichter told ČTK today.
The stadium for schoolchildren, a hockey club, and the public began to take shape this April on the site of the former ice rink, in close proximity to the sports hall and soccer field on Škroupova Street. According to Mayor Vladimír Kořen (Calm City), the city sought a way to build the rink and decided to collaborate with a private investor who rented the land.
The hall features a larger ice surface measuring 56 by 26 meters and a smaller training area sized 28 by 20 meters. It is monitored by five cameras, which will allow projections on a plasma television. This will be used primarily for goalie training. "I am currently on the ice with the camera system and we are testing it," Altrichter told ČTK today.
The facility also includes a gym with a cardio zone and a view of the ice, and there should also be a rental and a shop for skates and sports equipment.
Next to the sports hall on Škroupova Street, there originally stood an uncovered ice rink, which was established in 1982 and served for skating throughout the 1980s and 1990s. However, in 2006 it was closed due to unsatisfactory conditions and later demolished along with the surrounding buildings.
