Ostrava – The city of Ostrava is preparing the construction of a multifunctional sports hall with a capacity of 3,000 spectators. It will be created by renovating the former bus hall with the addition of a training center and further facilities. The hall will have parameters for hosting international sports events, but cultural events will also take place there. It is anticipated that the construction costs will reach 600 million crowns. This was stated today by Deputy Mayor Andrea Hoffmannová (Pirates) to journalists.
According to her, construction should begin next year, and the hall could be completed in 2023. It will be primarily intended for ball sports, such as basketball, volleyball, or floorball. "It will complement the sports infrastructure in the Moravian-Silesian Region, so that the region and the city of Ostrava can continue to be organizers of major sports events," Hoffmannová said. She noted that the city lacks a similar hall.
The city and the region are preparing the project in cooperation with the company ČSAD Ostrava. The city will invest up to 200 million crowns and the region 80 million. The largest contribution is expected from the National Sports Agency. Hoffmannová stated that the city is currently negotiating support with the agency, with positive results so far.
"Our task is to invest the hall and land worth approximately 50 million crowns into the project, then to develop the project itself, and then to co-participate in the operation of the hall," said Tomáš Vrátný, chairman of the board of the company Ostra Group, which ČSAD Ostrava is part of. Hoffmannová mentioned that the city will be involved in the operation of the hall, while not incurring any additional costs.
The Deputy Mayor stated that the original ČSAD hall has an excellent base that can be used. "It is a modification of a large bus hall, which will then serve as the main hall. Next to it, a training center and additional facilities will be built," she said.
The hall is located in Moravská Ostrava next to the Futurum shopping center. Hoffmannová mentioned that the city has also addressed transportation and parking issues regarding the project, as well as plans in the surrounding area, where a concert hall is planned to be built, for example. The parking lot at the shopping center can also be used for cars.
"At present, a detailed architectural study is being prepared, and documentation for the initiation of the environmental impact assessment process has been completed," Vrátný said. According to him, the materials for the quick initiation of work on the documentation for the zoning decision and construction permit are ready. He stated that the interior of the hall is already detailed, and the final designs of the outdoor appearance of the hall are being finalized and can still be adjusted.
