Hradec Králové – The new Center for Architecture of the Hradec Králové Region (CAKHK) will launch its activities with a conference for mayors on Tuesday, February 6th. The event, titled "Developing Our Municipality for a Quality Life and the Challenges of the 21st Century," will take place in the foyer of the Gallery of Modern Art (GMU) in Hradec Králové. The architecture center is the first organization of its kind in the Czech Republic, representatives of the Hradec gallery informed ČTK today. The gallery of modern art, under which the center falls, is established by the Hradec Králové Region. The conference will include lectures and workshops, as well as meetings with architects.
"The impulse for the creation of CAKHK came from the grassroots, from both the wider and expert public, who were involved in the preparation of the Culture Development Strategy 2022-2030. It turned out that not only historical heritage but also the quality of contemporary architecture and public spaces is a topic that is essential for citizens in the region," said the center's director, Náchod opposition councilor and former project manager Michal Kudrnáč (Green Party) to ČTK.
The position of the center's director was filled through a public selection process, with three candidates advancing to the second round and receiving invitations for personal interviews. "The center started its operations on October 1, 2023, and currently has one employee, with another expected to join in March," stated Lukáš Vaníček from the press department of the regional office.
The inaugural conference of the architecture center on February 6 is divided into several blocks of lectures and workshops. Representatives of self-governments will have the opportunity to present their own plans in municipalities and consult on them. "The inaugural conference will be followed by a meeting with architects from Poland and Slovakia, intended for the professional public," announced Gabriela Bučková, spokesperson for the Hradec gallery.
The activities of the regional center for architecture will also include organizing exhibitions, lectures, workshops, or supporting municipalities and towns in the Hradec Králové Region in the preparation of architectural projects, said representatives of CAKHK.
The Gallery of Modern Art in Hradec Králové is a contributory organization of the Hradec Králové Region. It is located in the historic center of the city in a late Art Nouveau building.
