In K. Vary, the object of the Sun Baths will be replaced by its replica

Karlovy Vary - In Karlovy Vary, the building of the Sun Baths, which was one of the most significant functionalist structures in the region, will be replaced by a partial replica. The original building from 1927 could not be saved by its owners, Milan Slavík Trade company, due to poor technical and static condition. The cost of constructing the new Sun Baths, which are intended to serve as residential housing, is estimated at 200 million crowns. This is reported by today's Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) in the regional supplement.
    The company has been preparing to build the new structure since around 2004. The original part of the building has already been demolished, and the construction of the new one has begun. The investor aims to complete it by the end of this year. "All construction work will respect the historical character of the original building in accordance with modern technologies and trends in hospitality and wellness. Although it will not be a complete replica of the former structure, we strive to replicate the original architectural elements of architect Rudolf Wels," said Sergej Rylov from the investment company.
    The residential complex of Sun Baths will be six stories high, with one of the floors designated for parking vehicles of the apartment owners. Prospective residents will have a choice of 36 apartments. The largest will be 230 square meters. It is likely that the new apartment owners will be affluent entrepreneurs from the former Soviet Union countries.
    In addition to the expected high prices of the apartments, this is also indicated by the online offer of apartments, which, in addition to Czech and English clientele, mainly targets Russian-speaking customers. The investor is currently keeping the apartment prices confidential. According to real estate traders, however, it will be in the order of millions of crowns.
    Several architects and the Club for Beautiful Karlovy Vary attempted to save the original exceptional building but were unsuccessful. The owners submitted a static assessment, from whose conclusions emerged the necessity to demolish the building. This was subsequently confirmed by an independent expert, who was commissioned and paid for another assessment by the city.
