Brno - The House of Art in Brno has seen its attendance today increase to more than double the usual. According to the institution's spokesperson Barbora Antonová, this is related to a call from people on social networks reacting to the city's intention to announce a competition for the position of the institution's director. The current head Rostislav Koryčánek is praised and respected in professional circles, but during his tenure at the House of Art, attendance has declined.

"We are not going to a demonstration, but to an exhibition," writes one of the participants in today's event on Facebook. According to Antonová, around 300 people supported the event on social networks. About two hundred people came to the gallery today. "That's roughly double the normal attendance, maybe even more. However, we must realize that two hundred people attend modern art exhibitions in Vienna, and those are free there," Antonová stated.
The increase in attendance at the gallery is, according to her, a reaction to the possible dismissal of Koryčánek. "Considering how nice the weather was today, a lot of people came to the gallery," she noted. The cultural commission of the city council recommended announcing a new selection procedure for Koryčánek's position. The councilors must decide on the announcement of the competition. In 2007, the House of Art was visited by 91,439 people. The year before last, after renovation, it was 32,403 people, and last year, 20,730 visitors.
