Cheb - New apartments are to be built on Prokop Holý Square in Cheb. The city offered land in gaps in a tender, which was won by Jaroslav Třešňák. The construction could take about two and a half years, Cheb mayor Jan Svoboda said to reporters today. In recent years, the Cheb city hall has been gradually trying to offer gaps in the city to investors. These are some of the few plots in the inner part of the city where it is possible to build. "We considered whether to offer the land at Prokop Holý Square individually or as a whole. The second option won, to sell the land to an investor who would build apartment buildings here," Svoboda stated. Two investors expressed interest in the land. However, according to Svoboda, one did not meet the conditions of the tender by proposing to build the houses gradually, starting construction of another only after selling the apartments in one house. "But we wanted it to be built all at once," the mayor explained. Dozens of new apartments could be created around the square. Třešňák offered 3.5 million crowns for the land. According to Svoboda, when assessing the offers, not only the price but also the builder's intention played a role. Třešňák is already investing in Cheb. By a resolution of the city council from 2005, he acquired the former Dragoun barracks for 33 million crowns, where there had been a Vietnamese market for years. Within two years, all original buildings disappeared, and a commercial complex with the Interspar supermarket and the OBI DIY store, which will open in July, was created. Overall, the investment in the former Dragoun amounted to about 850 million crowns. According to plans, a high-rise administrative building is also to be constructed in its area over the next two years.
