In the center of Plzeň, a building with underground garages is to be constructed

Plzeň - Plzeň has once again raised the question of construction in the center at the busiest traffic artery in the Pětatřicátníků Gardens. On the site of the current asphalt parking lot, a multipurpose building with an underground parking garage for hundreds of cars is to be built. The city may announce an urban competition for the construction on the lucrative municipal land, said the mayor's deputy Petr Rund (ODS) to ČTK.
    The town hall has already once announced a competition for the construction on the plot, which covers over 5000 square meters, and a winner was selected. However, the previous council did not accept the offer at the end of its term and canceled the competition.
    On the site where the famous barracks of the Plzeň regiment Pětatřicátníků once stood, there is now an asphalt parking area with 120 spaces.
    "In this location, if the council decides so, a multifunctional building should be created, where in the underground part there should be more than 300 parking spaces," said Rund.
    The total number of parking spaces in the building will depend on the function of the above-ground part. The town hall requires 300 public spaces, with additional spaces needed for the requirements of the building itself. "In the above-ground part, administration, retail, services, and if noise limits are met, also housing are proposed," added Rund. He expects to present a model of the competition to the council by the end of the year, which the city would announce for the area. The town hall will likely be looking for a private investor.
    There should be enough parking spaces in the new building for the center of Plzeň. Within walking distance from the center, according to the town hall's plans, more public parking garages with a total capacity of around a thousand spaces will be built. The city plans to gradually calm the center of traffic; the number of parking spaces in the square and some adjacent streets should eventually be reduced. In addition to the new facility with three hundred parking spaces in the Pětatřicátníků Gardens, the capacity parking garage Rychtářka with approximately 450 spaces is already under construction. Another parking garage with two hundred spaces will be built near the new theater that is to be constructed in the center.
