Brno - In the premises of the Matyáš Lerch Gymnasium in Žižkov Street, construction of a curling hall will start this year. The ice surface with three lanes will cost around 20 million crowns and will be completed next year; in the next phase, additional facilities will be added. Besides sports clubs and the school, it should also be available to the public for a fee.
"The region, as the founder of the school, will strive for the hall to be self-financing and not burden the school's budget," said South Moravian Region councilor Miloš Šifalda today to ČTK. Currently, a specialized curling hall exists only in Prague-Roztyly.
Construction of the hall will begin in the fall. "This year, about 10 million crowns should be invested. The region has obtained three and a half million crowns from the state budget, the rest from regional funds. The first phase will cost twenty million, after which we plan to equip the hall with facilities for the public, such as refreshments," Šifalda stated.
