Ústí nad Labem - Ústí nad Labem wants to make life more pleasant for residents of the Střekov district by revitalizing the waterfront, something that has been long called for. The city council will pay 12.7 million crowns for the contract, which is the price desired by the winning company Swietelsky construction. The spokesperson for the city, Romana Macová, informed journalists today about the winner of the contract. Along the Elbe, there is a frequently used bike path on the Střekov side. However, people are complaining about the lack of facilities. This summer, the city council announced an open competition for the revitalization. "The price offered by the winner is 3.5 million crowns lower than the budget," said Macová. During the revitalization, three terraces will be created on the slope towards Střekovské nábřeží street, a children's playground next to the railway bridge, climbing walls, and stone areas into the riverbed that will allow walking and feeding ducks. "It will also include the construction and improvement of the appearance of the riverbank with areas of round stones, the repair of sidewalks leading to the bike path at E. Beneš bridge, and a new sidewalk with colorful areas for seating," described the project Macová. The revitalization concerns the section between the railway bridge and the E. Beneš bridge. "It should be colorful, striking, comfortable, and able to withstand possible high water and vandalism," said the author of the design, architect Zdeněk Šťastný, to ČTK. "The riverbank has been adjusted, with direct access points created so that people can comfortably feed the birds and enter the water directly," described Šťastný. Until now, there was mud by the bank. From the site, there is a direct view of the opposite lookout castle Větruše, and in the future, according to the architect, a café could be established in the area. The bike path will receive new lighting, new benches, and sidewalks. According to the information about the contract, the revitalization should be completed by the end of July next year.
