Pardubice - The University of Pardubice will invest approximately 330 million CZK into two large development projects. A renovation of the building on the square of Čs. legií will create a Center for Materials and Nanotechnology, while a teaching complex will be built in the university campus in Polabiny. The university has obtained 175 million CZK from European funds for both constructions, spokesperson Valerie Wágnerová informed the Czech News Agency today.

The Center for Materials and Nanotechnology will transform the last part of the oldest university complex into modern scientific and laboratory facilities. It will primarily serve the Faculty of Chemical Technology, which has a long tradition in materials research, and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics. During the renovation, the building will be reconstructed and equipped with modern instruments for materials research. The total project will cost 120 million CZK, with 96 million CZK coming from the Operational Program Research and Development for Innovations. The construction costs will amount to 73.5 million CZK, and the rest will be for the equipment.
The teaching complex in Polabiny will include six classrooms and eight additional laboratories for teaching related to research and for foreign language instruction. Facilities will be provided for doctoral program students and their supervisors, and the new spaces will be equipped with modern computers and presentation technology. Additionally, a relaxation zone will be created in the indoor atrium with refreshments available, and the building will connect with neighboring university buildings. The total costs are expected to be around 110 million CZK, of which 79 million was obtained from a grant. The construction work will cost 85.6 million CZK, and everything is expected to be completed by the beginning of the 2015/2016 academic year.
Since 2009, the University of Pardubice has received European grants for the development of its activities, education, and research support for 46 projects. The total amount was 1.6 billion CZK.
