Brno – A sports hall is being built in Újezd u Brna for 85 million crowns for 150 spectators. It is expected to be completed by June 30, the mayor Marie Kozáková (KDU-ČSL) told reporters today. The hall will serve handball players, who have a long tradition in the city, as well as other athletes. Part of the funding will come from a grant from the Ministry for Regional Development, and the city is requesting additional funds from the National Sports Agency.

The building is located on the site of a former swimming pool. "Interior work has so far included waterproofing, concrete work in the showers, installation of drywall, electrical distribution, and sanitary technical installations, tiling, and air conditioning ductwork," the mayor listed. The cladding of the hall and the roofing work on the facade are also finished. Work will continue, for example, on interior tasks and on the parking lot next to the hall. The hall is expected to be completed by the end of June. A ceremonial opening is planned during the summer holidays so that handball players can start a new season there after the holiday break.

The facility is barrier-free. The city has obtained 30 million from the Ministry for Regional Development for the construction. It is requesting another 50 million from the National Sports Agency, but has not yet received a response. If the agency does not contribute the funds, according to the mayor, the city has an approved loan of 70 million crowns that it intends to use for investments.

Újezd u Brna is located about 15 kilometers southeast of Brno. The city has around 3,300 inhabitants. It has an approved budget of 123 million crowns for this year.
