Brno – The repair of the water supply and sewage system in the streets Česká, Solniční, and Veselá in the city center is nearing completion after nearly two years. Currently, all reconstruction work is finished, and workers are focusing on final adjustments, which are expected to last until October. Anna Dudková from the press center of the Brno city hall informed ČTK. The next step will be architectural adjustments.

The builders replaced 443 meters of water supply and 405 meters of sewage, including 211 meters in a tunneling shaft. According to the original plans, the repair was supposed to be completed in May this year. "There are several factors that caused the extension of the construction time. Firstly, there were delays in work on the district heating and gas pipelines, but primarily, there was a change in part of the project for the final surface adjustments in the Solniční and Česká areas according to the additionally approved proposal from the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno (KAM)," Dudková stated.

KAM prepared and discussed an architectural study that defines the final appearance of Česká street and its adjacent streets Solniční, Skryté, and Středovy. The aim of this study is to coordinate construction activities and create a public space that corresponds to the significance of the streets in the historical core of the city.

It was necessary to divide the work on the district heating, subsequent plumbing work for the reconstruction of the water supply, and now adjust the surface with regard to maintaining traffic flow. Some issues arose during the tunneling underground, but according to the city hall, nothing was delayed, and the construction should be finished by the end of October.

The next step will be architectural adjustments to the area where the streets Česká, Solniční, and Veselá intersect. Paving will be laid, and the area will be complemented with a sculpture or a water feature. "The surfaces of the streets always come at the end of the chain of construction works that the city needs to carry out in the given area. Since more investment projects are planned in Česká street and its vicinity, we estimate its completion in 2026," said architect Jan Tesárek from KAM.
