Brno - The newly built pig disease clinic of the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno, the wellness facility in Kuřim, and the first phase of the rail yard in Brno have become the buildings of the year 2010 in the South Moravian Region. The best projects were awarded today at the Brno exhibition center, where construction fairs are held. The competition is announced by the South Moravian Construction Community at the Union of Entrepreneurs in Construction in the Czech Republic.
    The new pig disease clinic won the category of industrial and technological buildings. It was built after the complete demolition of the original clinic. The jury was impressed by the technology in the building, the waste management solutions, and the fact that the facility was built while the university was in operation.
    The realization of the first phase of the rail yard in Brno won the category of transport and engineering buildings. The construction was very demanding due to the connection to the existing Brno - Břeclav line and the adjacent area in the Brno - Horní Heršpice cadastral region. After comprehensive completion, it will serve for operational maintenance, repairs, and the parking of train sets.
    The jury was also impressed by the reconstruction and extension of the covered swimming pool in Kuřim, which is now one of the largest aquaparks in the region. The best building for civic amenities is the new construction in the gap of the Brno streets Orlí, Divadelní, and Benešova by investor Magnum city center. In the category of residential buildings, the assisted living house in Brno-Komín won. The jury awarded the best water management and ecological building to the Šatavsko sewer and wastewater treatment plant.
