Pardubice - The construction of a twenty-five-meter swimming pool at Aquacenter Pardubice is being delayed. The company that won the public tender for the contract withdrew due to technical reasons, and the city council subsequently canceled the competition. The main reason, however, is the halt of investment grants from the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, where the city had already approved 20 million crowns.

"The cancellation of the grant may affect the potential deadline for the completion of the construction, so it was logical to cancel the competition," stated Mayor Martin Charvát (ANO). The new pool is planned to be built in the gap between the Ideon exhibition center and the aquapark. The costs are estimated at around 50 million crowns.

The city has prepared project documentation for the pool extension, remains interested in the construction, and plans to announce a new tender for the contractor. In the meantime, it will address financing options, whether with a grant or without it. Construction without state support would need to be approved by the councilors, and the current budget does not account for this option.

"The pool was intended mainly for swimming schools and sports clubs; the suspension of grants directly to sports may also reflect in the regular activities of sports clubs," Charvát stated. Pardubice has already addressed assistance to the organizers of the World Cup in floorball, which is currently taking place in the city and which lacks the promised grants for its organization. The organizers of the upcoming traditional Pardubice Junior Tennis tournament are also facing serious financial problems without grants.
