Pardubice - Pardubice may receive up to 20 million crowns in subsidies for the construction of a 25-meter swimming pool. The construction of an indoor sports facility for 50 million crowns is planned for this year. This was reported to journalists today by Deputy Mayor Jan Řehounek (ANO).

The swimming complex will have a 50-meter pool available for sports clubs and the public. The facility wants to offer additional swimming space, as the current pool does not meet demand, Řehounek said.

The extension is designed as a concrete monolith on piles. It will be located in the gap between the Ideon community center and the aquapark. It will partially utilize the technology of the 50-meter pool.

If the city does not receive subsidies or if they are lower than 20 million crowns, it will be up to the councilors to decide whether the city will increase the budget for the project or if Pardubice will build the pool even without support from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Řehounek said.

The deputy expects that construction of the pool could begin in the second quarter of this year. The work will last from eight months to a year. Any subsidies must be settled with the provider by March of next year.

Pardubice modernized and expanded the swimming complex for 544 million crowns excluding VAT, which opened to the public in June 2012. Before the renovation, the aquapark was visited by about 300,000 people annually, and now there are 150,000 more.
