Soběslav (Táborsko) - Soběslav will establish a library and information center in a Gothic castle. The first phase of the renovation of the monument, which has been deteriorating for decades and was also used as a fruit storage, will cost nearly 39 million crowns. More than 90 percent of it will be covered by a grant from the Regional Operational Program, said Mayor Jindřich Bláha today. "The Gothic castle is a monument from the 14th century. It is in the center of the town, unlike other castles on a hill. We would like to first save it and secondly build a library and information center into it," stated Bláha. The project also includes a permanent exhibition of stone fragments and artifacts found during renovations, as well as a hall for author readings, video projections, and musical performances. The library, with approximately 35,000 volumes, will be located on the second floor of the palace. It will be placed in a glass container, through which visitors will see the historical masonry and which will ensure optimal climate conditions for the books. The library will have departments for children, youth, and adults, a music department, and four computer terminals with internet access. Soběslav has also received a grant of 22.4 million crowns from the ROP for the establishment of the Soběslav Community Center. "It is a renovation of a cinema into a community center, and there will still be a hall for screenings, including digital projection. But there will also be spaces primarily for young people to spend their free time in a pleasant environment," explained the mayor.
