The Chamber will discuss sewage treatment plants for small municipalities and the building law

Prague - Today, MPs will discuss whether to allow some small municipalities to extend the exemption for discharging wastewater without adequate treatment. They should also address the amendment to the building law.
The government introduced the amendment to the building law this summer. The amendment addresses the joint permitting of groups of buildings, which the current law does not address. This has frustrated building offices, which cannot use simplified procedures. The amendment further proposes to adjust the cancellation of zoning decisions and municipal regulations on building closures.
The amendment to the water law, proposed by the Zlin Region, would allow municipalities to postpone for three years the obligation to build treatment plants and thus ensure adequate wastewater treatment. This applies to municipalities with up to 2,000 inhabitants that have built sewer systems but do not have a treatment plant.
A total of three parliamentary committees recommended rejecting this proposal, and the government also disagrees with it. Opponents point out, for example, that it is demotivating and unfair to those municipalities that started addressing the problem earlier. They also argue that municipalities had the opportunity to apply for an exemption until the end of 2002, which would have been valid for ten years.
