Schools used the holidays for repairs and modernization

Prague - Many kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools in the country have used the summer holidays for modernization and further adjustments, which should improve and enhance the environment for students and teachers in the new school year. School founders, namely regions or cities, have spent tens and, in some places, hundreds of millions of crowns on the modernization of classrooms, roofs, insulation of buildings, extensions, and other repairs.
About half a billion crowns will be invested this year in repairs and modernization of buildings by school founders in South Moravia. Nearly 180 million crowns will be spent on repairs by the Vysočina region this year. For example, the Secondary School in Pelhřimov will receive new workshops for 32 million crowns, which will significantly improve the conditions for practical education of students. On the other hand, in the Zlín region, builders mostly focused only on partial deficiencies, such as window replacements, insulation of facades, and electrical installations. Buildings in emergency condition were repaired in previous years.
Schools in Pilsen have invested in window replacements, electrical wiring, roof repairs, restroom renovations, playground construction, extensions, and painting. Major construction work is beginning to peak in schools these days. Directors are discussing in meetings with representatives of companies whether the workers will complete the work by the end of the holidays. Prague schools and schools in Olomouc and Central Bohemia are also engaged in similar repairs costing tens of millions of crowns.
Tens of millions of crowns have also been used in the Hradec Králové region. In Karlovy Vary, larger summer repairs of primary and kindergarten schools, which are run by the city, will amount to around 22 million crowns. Český Krumlov is repairing, among others, the primary school in Plešivci, which otherwise would not have been allowed to reopen after the holidays by health inspectors. They were primarily concerned about the non-functional air conditioning and outdated kitchen and dining room equipment.
In the Ústí nad Labem region, one of the largest repairs is taking place at the Teplice hotel school, where, besides a complete reconstruction of the restrooms and canteen, one classroom is being built. The main project is the construction of a new gymnasium, which is expected to be operational in the first semester of next year. Some construction projects in Liberec may continue into the fall.
