Rynartice - The fire that completely destroyed two historic cottages in the Děčín region on Friday has caused preliminary estimated damage of more than 23 million crowns. Both cottages near Rynartice in the Czech Switzerland were cultural monuments. A technical fault is currently considered the most likely cause of the fire. This was reported today by police spokesman Daniel Vítek.
However, investigators are still working with several investigative scenarios. "To definitively determine the cause of the fire, we must wait for the results of expert assessments," said Vítek.
The fire started in the tourist-favorite location Na Tokáni on Friday morning, with the fire being discovered by park rangers. Over 100 firefighters were involved on site. Two hunting cottages owned by a private individual, built in alpine style, were reduced to ashes. There were six such cottages in the area. This week, heritage officials will inspect the remains of the valuable buildings.
Police investigators examined the site over the weekend after the fire was completely extinguished and the site cooled down. "We cooperated with fire investigators, experts from the Fire Protection Technical Institute, and a police officer from the special canine units with a service dog trained to detect fire accelerants also participated in the examination," stated Vítek.
