Revitalization of old factories could be managed by a national coordinator

Brno - The revitalization of old and unused areas in the Czech Republic could be overseen by a national coordinator. The role, which would be at the ministerial level, is proposed by the agency CzechInvest. The coordinator would be responsible for preparing a strategic plan and overseeing the revitalization of brownfields, Ivana Novotná from CzechInvest said today at the Building Fair in Brno.
    The agency's plan anticipates the renewal of most of the 3100 brownfields by 2025. Investments amounting to 100 billion crowns will be shared among the state, the European Union, and developers.
    In addition to CzechInvest, regions, municipalities, and the ministries of local development, industry and trade, and the environment also take care of brownfields. "Not everyone is always aware of what others are doing," Novotná described the situation. The coordinator responsible for the national brownfield strategy would gather all the information from lower levels and could have access to a government interdepartmental commission. A similar commission is already functioning in relation to industrial zones.
    The national coordinator is not a new concept in the Czech Republic. The government has established a similar role, for example, in preparation for the introduction of the euro or for the launch of digital broadcasting.
