Opava - The revitalization of Silver Lake in Opava is set to begin in June. The cost of the project, which also includes the construction of a footbridge connecting the lake and the nearby city park, amounts to approximately 142 million crowns. Most of the funding will come from the Ministry of Finance. The city of Opava has contributed 23.5 million from this amount, which is its share of the footbridge construction. This was stated by the city spokesperson, Lada Dobrovolná.
According to her, the work should not significantly limit the possibility of using the lake for recreation this year. It is expected to be completed by spring 2021. The contract with the contractor has already been signed, according to the city. "Now, for about two months, design work will take place. During June, preparations for the construction of the bridge and other works will begin, but within the section from the road to the Municipal Gardens. Therefore, this year's summer season will not be disrupted, and people will still be able to enjoy recreation at the lake despite the commencement of work," stated the city mayor, Tomáš Navrátil (ANO).
The project includes terrain and landscaping modifications, including bank adjustments for the lake, the construction of a sewage system, water supply, public lighting, access walkways, and water entry points. "A key component is the new footbridge over the Opava River. This will enable the connection of the lake area with the Municipal Gardens," the mayor added. A tunnel will be built under Rolnická Street. Near the water area, a natural playground for children with a shallow pool and attractions for the youngest will be created.
