The reconstruction of the school on J. Palach waterfront in K. Vary will be postponed

Karlovy Vary - The reconstruction of the school on the embankment of Jan Palach in Karlovy Vary will be postponed. Charles University, which plans to open a branch of the medical faculty here, wants to be sure of the program's viability. This was stated by Mayor Petr Kulhánek (KOA) to ČTK. The complex of buildings could be repaired through the grant program Restart.

"We own the building; however, the applicant for the Restart program must be the university. And the university does not want to apply until it is sure that the study program is established. Therefore, it will not apply for a grant for the overall reconstruction, but only for educational equipment," Kulhánek stated. He added that the Restart program, aimed at supporting structurally affected regions, is long-term and the university can apply for reconstruction grants in subsequent years.

The reconstruction is estimated to cost about 150 million crowns, and the city is currently completing the project documentation for it. According to Kulhánek, the city wants to use a financing method called EPC (Energy Performance Contracting) for the reconstruction, where the contractor itself covers the renovation costs and then recoups them from the energy savings that arise.

According to Kulhánek, it is possible that part of the reconstruction could be paid for from this project, and if the physiotherapy program starts in Karlovy Vary, the university will subsequently complete the reconstruction from the Restart program.
