Quality reconstruction requires much more than just window replacement and facade insulation. That is why an interactive exhibition "Reconstruction of Panel Houses" will be presented for the first time at the IBF Building Fairs in Brno (April 23 - 27, 2013), prepared for visitors among experts and the public by the Passive House Center and its partners. The accompanying program of the Brno fairs will be dedicated to a comprehensive approach to the reconstruction of apartments and houses.
The unique model of an apartment on specific walls will demonstrate three phases of the building renovation – before the renovation, after a standard renovation, and after a comprehensive energy refurbishment of the building, and will explain their advantages and disadvantages. Visitors will thus be able to see the construction of suitable windows, their proper installation into insulated walls, the treatment of the installation joint, and the assurance of air tightness from the very first day of the fair.

“Because today, due to a one-sided view of insulation and sealing of buildings, the indoor environment is becoming health hazardous, a recuperation unit will also be an essential part, which will outline the possibilities for installing a controlled ventilation system in panel buildings,” adds Juraj Hazucha, an expert advisor from the Passive House Centre, and adds: “Renovating buildings to a lower energy standard is an opportunity that should be seized today to save for the future. Otherwise, the residents of the building will close the potential for savings for a long time, as they will not embark on another renovation for many years.”

The model will be conceived as an educational tool – on the information panels, visitors will learn, for example, about the most suitable ways to reduce the energy demand of the building, and at each information panel, a small educational game will await them. They will be able to literally feel what materials are used for insulating panel buildings, what properties different materials have, and what they are suitable for because of this.

However, the interactive exhibition will certainly not only be about insulation! Visitors will be able to measure for themselves how much slower a passive house cools compared to a standard one, compete to see who can avoid non-conceptual and partial solutions first, and achieve passive standards during renovation, or spin a wheel of fortune to find out if the measures taken for the renovation truly match the results. In short, they will actively discover passive renovations!

In addition to the interactive model and its guided tours, a rich accompanying program will also be held under the auspices of the Passive House Centre, where experts will advise why and how to qualitatively renovate existing buildings, and residents of passive houses will share their experiences. A detailed accompanying program can be found on the website http://www.pasivnidomy.cz

The general partners of the interactive exhibition are ISOVER and WEBER. Project partners include SLAVONA, s.r.o., ATREA s.r.o., DAFE-PLAST Jihlava, s.r.o., Tremco illbruck s.r.o., Úsporné bydlení s.r.o., MACHSTAV s.r.o., Miniroll Building Plastics ČR, s.r.o., and IZOLAČNÍ SKLA a.s.
