Zlín - The councilors of the Zlín Region want to support the rescue of the historic building of the parish barn in Velký Ořechov in the Zlín region. The representative of the region, Jan Vandík, informed ČTK about this today. The councilors want to allocate nearly one million crowns to address the emergency condition of the building, which must be approved by the regional assembly.

To renovate the historically valuable building, the Stodola Horreum association was founded. It aims for the building to serve the public in the future as a community center, where exhibitions and other cultural and social events will take place. It should also serve children’s activities and relaxation.

"The reason for the proposal to provide support from the budget of the Zlín Region is the effort to save the endangered monument of local significance. The technology for securing the building will not affect its cultural-historical values, as the restoration is proposed with respect to traditional methods," said regional councilor Zuzana Fišerová (Pirates).

The parish was in Velký Ořechov as early as the end of the 14th century. The history of the parish barn has not yet been traced. Dendrochronological examination of the wood in the trusses determined their age to be between 1785 and 1792. A fire occurred in 1791, and it is not excluded that the roof damaged by the fire was repaired with wood. The building itself, predominantly made of stone, may be older. The barn is one of the largest structures of its kind in the region, measuring over 30 meters in length. The building was constructed very carefully, and its value is also enhanced by the fact that it has been preserved without later disruptive elements. The association has established a fundraising campaign for the rescue and restoration of the barn.
