Prague - Prague conservationists have prepared materials based on which they will make stricter decisions regarding permits for outdoor dining areas in the city's heritage reserve. Jiří Skalický, the head of the municipal conservationists, stated this to ČTK. The number of restaurants that expand their outdoor seating onto sidewalks and squares has been increasing year by year. The rules aim to improve and unify their appearance so that they do not disrupt the historical character of the center, said Skalický.

"Outdoor dining areas are a significant part of the city's street interior," the document, which ČTK has at its disposal, states. Their aesthetic quality must therefore be at a high level. According to the new regulations, entrepreneurs in Hradčany, Malá Strana, Old Town, New Town, Josefov, and Vyšehrad will need to modify their outdoor seating. Without this, they will not receive the necessary permits from the conservationists.
Overly bulky outdoor areas with compact roofing and fencing, especially those placed on high platforms, will be unacceptable. According to experts, such structures not only obstruct traffic but also block views of historical sites. Entrepreneurs will no longer be allowed to place bulky awnings above outdoor seating, and the use of prominent advertising elements, grills, dispensing and cooling counters, or televisions will be prohibited.
Conservationists will require that seating be placed directly on the pavement without any platforms. Tables should ideally be shaded by solid-colored umbrellas. The furniture should be made of traditional natural materials; plastic tables and chairs will be unacceptable. The applicant will need to submit a visualization of the future appearance of the outdoor area for assessment.
The municipal heritage care department is also preparing additional materials to regulate the appearance of advertisements and advertising devices in the city streets. It should be completed in the near future.
