Prague - The normally inaccessible representative spaces of Prague Castle will open to the public on Saturday, October 6. Compared to previous open door days, the organizers have prepared several novelties. For example, in the Rothmayer Hall, foreign decorations received by President Miloš Zeman will be exhibited, and in the Brožík Salon, visitors will see paintings by Václav Brožík loaned by the Gallery of the Capital City of Prague. Jan Novák, the director of the administrative section of the presidential office, told ČTK.
According to the head of the public relations department, Martin Hakauf, the representative spaces on the first floor of the New Palace of Prague Castle will be open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Visitors will be able to view the places where presidents exercise their constitutional powers. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Czechoslovakia and the upcoming October 28, during which the president awards state decorations, representatives of Prague Castle want to present the theme of order days to the public. "In the exhibition during the open door day, the Rothmayer Hall will feature, for the very first time, not only Czech orders but also high foreign decorations that the current president of the republic has received during his term," Hakauf stated. Proposals for the form of the Order of the White Lion after 1990 will also be on display.
The second novelty will be the presentation of the renovated Brožík Salon. In addition to the two existing paintings by Václav Brožík from the collections of Prague Castle, additional works loaned from the Gallery of the Capital City of Prague will be added to the salon, including a portrait of his wife. In this room, for example, the president receives newly appointed ambassadors presenting their credentials.
In the Rudolf Gallery, visitors will be able to view a large ceremonial table specially set up for the open door day. It will include a collection of 15 hand-blown crystal vases produced for Prague Castle by Moser on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Czechoslovakia. They were used for the first time in September during the visit of the Indian president. "All representative spaces will be richly decorated with flowers from the castle's greenhouses and gardens," Hakauf added.
Entry to the tour will be ensured through the Matthias Gate from the Hradčanské Square and the first courtyard, with the last visitor able to enter the representative spaces half an hour before closing, namely at 4:30 PM.
The open door day will be followed by the opportunity for school groups to tour on Friday, October 5, and Monday, October 8. School interested parties must book in advance.
Last year, the open door day took place at the beginning of November. Over two days, nearly 15,000 people visited the representative spaces of Prague Castle.
Open door days are also organized by other offices on the occasion of the founding of Czechoslovakia. Some ministries invited visitors on the past Friday, September 28, while others will open on October 28.
At Prague Castle, people can also view exhibitions related to the 100th anniversary of the republic until the end of October. They are currently accessible for free.
