Prague - The capital city is halting the project to create a multimedia internet encyclopedia about the Prague Monument Reserve. City representatives were supposed to discuss the project today, but Deputy Mayor Milan Richter (ODS) withdrew the item from the agenda. He promised to also stop the tender for the contractor of this encyclopedia, which the city announced in November of last year. The estimated value of the tender is 160 million crowns. According to Richter, interested parties would find 3D visualizations of monuments and information about their history in the encyclopedia. The database should serve schools, architects, the general public, and tourists. According to Richter, in tourism, the project could even generate profit. The project has already been criticized by some opposition representatives. The opposition claims that Prague does not need such a project and may waste hundreds of millions of crowns on it unnecessarily. They criticized the lack of a plan for expected development and financial costs. Councilor Petra Kolínská (SZ) previously referred to the project as "another tunnel." "Compared to that, the opencard is a completely sensible project. I have never seen such nonsense," she stated at the finance committee. According to her, the plan is too ambitious, and more than 100 million crowns, which it will cost in the first phase, will only cover the project's basics. Richter noted today that the finance committee of the council did not recommend the project's approval on Monday. "I will therefore leave the decision about the future of the project to the next city leadership," said the deputy. Prague failed to utilize about 119 million crowns intended for the project last year. It is likely that these will be used for other purposes.
