Prague - Prague will begin preparing for the transformation of Veletržní Street, Dukelských hrdinů, part of Strojnická Street, and U Výstaviště for 762 million crowns. Today, the councilors approved the conceptual study for the area in Prague 7 on several occasions, prepared by the city's Institute of Planning and Development (IPR). According to it, the adjustments should be completed by 2022 in connection with the planned reconstruction of the tram line. The councilors also agreed today to prepare another study that will focus on the area extending from Štefánik Bridge to Legion Bridge.
The magistrate, in cooperation with the IPR, will start looking for a general designer for the planned changes in the so-called Letná Cross area, according to the approved resolution. Deputy Mayor Petra Kolínská (Green/Troika Coalition) attempted to push the material through the council several times and only succeeded now.
Several plans are in place for the area, such as the reconstruction of the Veletržní Palace and the space in front of it, the modernization of the railway track, and the renovation of the area in front of the entrance to the Exhibition Grounds and Stromovka. Coordinating all adjustments is one of the main objectives of the study. In addition, the plans include sidewalk modifications, crossings, stops, and the planting of nearly 200 trees.
According to Kolínská, the reconstruction of the tracks, to which the transformation is linked, is necessary. "The tracks are really on the verge of their lifespan, so I expect that construction work should start no later than 2021," she stated. She added that the officials of the magistrate have been tasked with preparing a binding schedule of works in collaboration with the transport company and the Technical Administration of Communications.
The councilors also voted today that the IPR would begin preparing another conceptual study. It will concern the streets of Národní, 28. října, Jungmann Square, Na Příkopě, Republic Square, and Revoluční.
The study is to propose modifications that will improve pedestrian and cyclist mobility in the area and transform it into a cohesive urban street connecting Legion Bridge and Štefánik Bridge. The goal is, according to the assignment, to limit car traffic and examine the possibility of routing the tram line.
